He played baseball and basketball in High School.
Steve was part of the University of Arizona Basketball team from 1983-1988. In 1984 his father was killed. In 1986 he blew out his right knee while playing in the 1986 World Championships in Madrid. In 1988 he, Sean Elliot, Jud Buchler and the other Wildcats went to the NCAA Final Four. That was a great year for the team. I was lucky enough to be a freshman there that year and help celebrate when they came home. I became a huge Steve Kerr fan that year.
After he graduated, he was drafted by the Phoenix Suns. In 1989 he was traded to the Cleveland Cavaliers. In 1992 he was traded to the Orlando Magic. In 1993 he signed with the Bulls. With them he won the NBA Championship in 1996, 1997, and 1998. In the final game of the 1997 Championships he threw the game winning 3pts. In 1997 he also won the AT&T 3 point Shoot-out. But, he was unable to compete in 1998 because of a broken clavicle and this year the All-Star game is canceled. In 1999 he was traded to the San Antonio Spurs. In 2001 he was traded to the Portland Trailblazers. In 2002 he was traded back to the Spurs
He is also working on his Masters of Sports Science.
He likes playing golf.
He does lots of charity work and holds a basketball clinic for kids in Tucson each summer.
He threw out the opening pitch at a Chicage White Sox game in 1997.
He had his jersey retired at U of A on 1/9/99
He has had uncredited cameos in 2 movies, Space Jam and Nothing to Lose. He was also on Jay Leno after making "the shot" in 1997.
He eventually might go overseas to play basketball or he may coach college basketball in the U.S.
His Mom wrote a book about the Kerr family called Come With Me from Lebanon : An American Family Odyssey. It is a very good book.
I have seen Steve in person 9 times. At the Sun's rookie camp in 1988, 6 Suns' Games, practicing with the U of A basketball team after he graduated, Spurs vs. Bulls game and the 1996 AT&T 3pt Shoot-out.
Since the Spurs won the NBA championship in 1999 Steve is the only active NBA player in 1999 and the 11th ever to win four consecutive titles. Yea Steve! In 2003 he got his 5th ring when the spurs won their champion. In August 2003 he signed on to be a broadcaster for TNT. Hopefully he will become coach someday.
